AARON BRENTON

Bassist, Bandleader, Teacher

Aaron Brenton is a Chicago bassist currently located in the Rogers Park area. After graduating with a degree in Double Bass Performance from Lawrence University in Appleton, WI, he has had the chance to perform in many ensembles that cover a wide range, including jazz trios with Chicago pianist Dave Flippo, his own jazz fusion group Solar Sails, string quartets, jam bands, reggae groups, and even more!

As a teacher my focus and exercises are ever changing to accommodate different students, skill levels, and ways of learning. Music is what you put into it, and stick to a mindset which is as long as the student is being comfortably challenged and learning a new technique, song, scale in the process, that is a valuable use of time. I teach students to learn a song by ear, to read music, learn music theory, or new and advanced techniques that can help them.

ABOUT AARON

Born in Middleton, Wisconsin, Aaron had his first performing opportunities playing Bassoon in his middle school band at the age of twelve and with continued support from his parents, started taking private lessons and learning how to practice. Then at age 15, Aaron got his first bass guitar and started playing metal tablature to songs like Wrathchild and Kryptonite.  Through multiple Youtube videos Aaron learned about Funk and R&B bass players like Victor Wooten and Michael League. Joining the Middleton High School Jazz band and learning about jazz double bass from UW Madison music faculty Nick Moran followed soon after. Aaron was the bass player for Middleton High School's Essentially Ellington debut in 2019. College at Lawrence University followed with studies under Professor Mark Urness, Phil Palombi, and Rufus Reid. Aaron has shared the stage with the Harmon Brothers, Dave Rivello, Ike Sturm, Dave Flippo, The Jeremiah Jams Band, Erin Krebs, Mike Malone, and many others. When not performing, teaching, or playing music, Aaron enjoys watching Youtube documentaries and seeing live music in and around the Chicago area every weekend.
